CHS Art Department
Mission Statement: The CHS Visual Art Department is focused on encouraging students to develop a respect and appreciation for visual arts .Our department offers a standard based visual art curriculum that provides an opportunity for self-expression and art discipline based studies.
In the Visual Art Department, students create original works of art using a variety of media. The students will study the Art Elements and Principles of Design in order to interpret works of art. The Art Department offers a Survey of Fine Arts course for 9th graders. This is a 9 week course that collaborates with Music and also completes the Fine Art credit needed to graduate. This course focuses on the history of art, music history and careers in the art world. If a student chooses Visual Art as their focus area our department has a variety of classes to complete. Art 1 is a basic drawing class that focuses on drawing, the art elements and principles of design and is a prerequisite for Art 2. Art 2 focuses on color theory by using a variety of media, including paint and colored pencil. Art 1 and 2 are prerequisites to Art 3 and Art 4. Art 3 and 4 are honors courses. These classes focus on advanced projects including, but not limited to, printmaking, oil painting, bookmaking, sculpture, portfolio building.
